770204 - Letter to Candravali from Satsvarupa
4 February, 1977
Dear Candravali devi,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada has received your undated letter and heard it, but he has asked me, as his personal secretary to answer you. The more His Divine Grace take time and energy to answer many personal problems around the world, the less time he has to translate the Srimad Bhagavatam for everyone’s higher benefit.
Srila Prabhupada, however, was pleased to hear you sentiments and dedication in cow protection. I can understand that the few cows there on Naranaryan’s farm are not be cared for properly and you think this should be the responsibility of the Berkeley temple. I cannot enter into this controversy, but if Nara Narayan is the leader of that farm, better you have him take it up rather that agitate yourself. Whatever facilities you have try your best to take care of the cows and do not take it as your responsibility to deal with the Berkeley temple. Sometimes we find ourselves powerless to make changes, then what can we do but pray to Krsna for His help? In this way the little bird in the story in the Puranas, tried to empty the whole ocean with her beak – an impossible task – but the Lord was so moved by her dedication that He sent Garuda His carrier who personally gave her aid and she got back her eggs from the ocean. But if it is too difficult then you had better first take care of your children and yourself so that you can keep up your daily chanting and maintain yourself in the rules and regulations of Krsna Consciousness. That is even more important than protecting the cows.
Hope this meets you in good health.
Your servant,
Satsvarupa das Goswami,
Secretary to His Divine Grace
