Dear Mrs. Perlmutter,

I have been requested by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to thank you for your letter dated May 17th, 1977. As you probably know, His Divine Grace has been seriously ill and so he could not reply your letter personally but has asked me to do so on his behalf. Prabhupada was very pleased to hear your letter. His Divine Grace said: “You are an intelligent mother of an intelligent son. Your appreciation is very much welcome. I am struggling against so many odds. But my mission is to save the human society. That is my only aim and there are no personal motives. If I can save one person, I shall think my mission successful. So kindly help me, all of you intelligent mothers and sisters, that is my prayer to you.”

Srila Prabhupada very much sympathized with the difficulty you are meeting in trying to explain the good purposes of our Krishna consciousness movement. His Divine Grace said: “They killed Jesus Christ only for speaking God consciousness, so we have to expect resistance. But we should not be stopped by such temporary obstacles but go on sincerely endeavoring to educate the people about the purpose of human life and how they may be benedicted by this Krishna consciousness movement.” There are three qualities which are required for success in devotional service, and they are enthusiasm, determination, and patience. I am sure that you possess all these qualities and by Krishna’s grace you will be able to gradually convince more and more parents that they should be pleased that their children have joined the Hare Krishna movement. Hoping this meets you well and thanking you once again for your very encouraging letter.
